*** THE BEST OF MY YEAR ***

2015 has been such a learning experience for ME! I went from working full-time, making decent pay to unemployed after being with my previous employer after 8 years.

TO struggling to pay bills and trying to keep up! TO wanting to give up and NOT be a productive or successful adult. But, once I got out of that rut which I came to realize that I couldn’t stay there for long because I remembered that God made me for this particular situation. So, that I could be a Blessing for and to someone else with my STORY.

So, I did what I was taught… I went to God in prayer to move any negative feelings from my heart about my sudden end of employment. I started focusing on my nonprofit, Beyond the Curves and MYSELF! Which is when I started on my #GetFit Weight Loss Life Journey, in order for me to become a BETTER ME! Started working part-time from home. Some may say, well that happened in 2014 but it still affected my life in 2015 because I had to play catch up and balance myself.

In spite of my many challenges, I was still able to travel, celebrate my BIRTHDAY the way that I wanted to and made Christmas OK for my Mom they way I wanted to.

And, I couldn’t have done this ALONE! I had amazing SUPPORT and HELP! I had amazing support from many that have been in my life for years and some, that I had just met.

I just wanted to share my reflection of 2015 with my supporters and as we close out 2015, we should reflect and think about how WE CAN BECOME BETTER & GREATER! Don’t continue to say that you want to change or you want something new/different, but are not willing to put in some work! It takes a lot of work, dedication and determination to become a better you!

I pray that we all have a EPIC YEAR IN 2016, come back and check out all of the great things that I am going to be sharing with you all on 2016.

Remember, that you are More Than Your CURVES! HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU and a kick ass year to come!

Enjoy the abundant life you so much deserve.

Day 7 of 7 Days to Having A Winning Mindset

unnamed (4)

Day 7

“Willingness” Trumps Ability

Too often, we establish a business model that worked at one time, then insist on it remaining the same. “My business worked well for 10 years. Entrepreneurs have to be stubborn in some ways in order to have the grit to keep pushing through the tough times. However, it’s also important to be big enough to know when it’s time to be flexible and adapt to a different environment.

CHANGE. The good ole word. You have to be willing to change.

Change = Growth = Leadership

What does it take for a leader to recognize they have to change? The answer is COURAGE. It is the ability to stare yourself in the eye and admit that you must make changes within yourself, if you are to inspire your people.

Think of it this way: The one person who you have the most control over is the one person you must change, and by changing that one person and letting it be seen will begin to change an entire organization and culture.

As simple as it sounds, it isn’t, because LEADING OURSELVES is the toughest leadership challenge there is.

If you conquer that challenge, you will reap the rewards and the return.

1. Have you learned how to influence yourself?

2. Have you learned self-control, self-empowerment, and self-determination during this 7 day challenge?

3. Is there anything that can stop you from looking in mirror and changing YOURSELF?

4. On a scale from 1 – 10, how much do you feel you have the winning mindset now?

5. Have you discovered things about yourself?

6. Have you discovered things about the people, environments, and habits in your life?

7. Would you recommend other people take this e-course?

Well come over to these Instagram pages and let us know!
@wewinmovement

@nyalaphillipsIt has been a honor to serve you in this e-course, and we hope you had as many “a-ha” moments as we did in the making of it!

Here’s to the best you possible!

How to Empower Yourself!

love-self

em·pow·er

əmˈpou(ə)r/
verb
make (someone) stronger and more confident, especially in controlling their life and claiming their rights.
         synonyms:                         emancipate, unshackle, set-free, liberate
No one is born feeling self-empowered. Confidence is learned. EVERYONE has fears and insecurities. But, some create a confident façade.
You CAN empower yourself, with patience and determination. It can take a while but you can start today to inch your way to becoming self-empowered and break any People Pleasing Habits you might have.
  1. Repeat Affirmations: Affirm that you can do what you want, repeatedly, until it sticks. When you have an important meeting to attend or phone call to make, before you leave or call repeat, “I know what I’m doing.” or “I will make a great impression” or “It will all work out for me.” The more you say an affirmation, the more it will sink in and become true for you. Repeat a positive one until you believe it! Create your own affirmation.
  2. Build Self-Appreciation: Self-esteem that’s based on external achievements doesn’t last! Take inventory of your good qualities and allow those to shine bright. Often what you hate blinds you to your great attributes. Become aware of yours by looking for them (ask loved ones for suggestions) and writing them down just to impress yourself.
  3. No One is Perfect: Accept that no one, including you, is perfect or completely secure. Stop holding yourself to higher standards than others. Striving to be perfect disempowers you. If you wait for perfection to feel good about yourself it will never happen. Since perfection is impossible, you’ll always be going after it and feeling low for not getting it. REPEAT THIS AND REMEMBER IT: “I accept myself for my imperfections.” Embrace yourself for who you are and if you’re battling with your body images, remember that; “I’m More Than My Curves”.
  4. Take Responsibility: Take responsibility for your thoughts. It’s YOUR choice to accept criticism from others as YOUR perception of who you are. Allowing criticism from others to take over your thoughts always reflects in your behavior. You can either let the criticism consume your life or ignore the damn thang!

Nobody can make you feel inferior without your permission.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

  5. Kindness: Always consciously kinder to YOU! The more you do for you, the better you’ll feel. With each act of kindness, the better you will make yourself feel. It helps you focus on you and believe that you deserve good. Give yourself a break when you’re tired. Take a nap! Take a bubble bath! Get a massage! Buy that pair of shoes you’ve wanted, or that dress you saw in Macy’s. Self-kindness will blossom into self-love from which self-empowerment will grow. You deserve to be treated with kindness!
  6. Good Posture: That’s easy to fake! Standing tall is a great habit. Straightening your stance feels better physically. I initially developed good posture while working out at the gym and while walking to avoid pains and any discomfort. And, I felt more confident by standing tall, arching my shoulders and holding my head high. Your stance (swag & ‘tude) makes a statement. Set the tone for the people’s perception of you. Good Posture makes you look and feel more powerful!

Helen Keller said, “Never bend your head. Hold it high. Look the world straight in the eye.”

  7. Pep Talks: Give them to yourself! Affirm in a mirror that you’re ENOUGH. Recite your best qualities to yourself. Support YOU as you would support others. When you have doubt, repeat “You can do it” until you calm down.
Tell yourself how awesome you are. It’s always best to take a positive approach.
  8. Stop Negative Self-Talk: Stop that “I can’t lose weight,” “People won’t listen to what I have to day,” “they won’t support my Scopes,” etc. Send those negative affirmations straight to hell. Pay attention to the self-defeating thoughts you have. Try being POSITIVE ALWAYS! It makes a huge difference in your spirit.
Talk to yourself like you would to your best friend, not someone you don’t like.
  9. Support: Create an awesome support circle. Partner with someone who’s also trying to improve. Talk daily and make one another accountable. Call when you’re having a bad day. We benefit from helping one another. Be open to unwarranted pep talks and advice or self help.
  10. Let Go: Rid yourself of negative people. We absorb other people’s negativity. Avoid toxic people! If you must keep one in your life, limit the time you spend with them.

ALWAYS Speak with Conviction!

Remember, always EMPOWER YOURSELF FIRST! Otherwise, you won’t be able to help or empower others.

Confidence?? Confidence!! Swagger!!

CONFIDENCE: (n.) (adj.): A feeling or belief that you can do something well or succeed at something.

antonyms: difference, insecurity, self-distrust, self-doubt

synonyms: attitude, self-assurance, demeanor of coolness, self-esteem, swagger

confidence 1

Having CONFIDENCE is an important trait for ME! But, unfortunately there are many LADIES and GIRLS that don’t feel the same way or have the same level of confidence as other young ladies that they may socialize with or come in contact with.

But, sometimes we just need a little booster… such as: that BAD ASS OUTFIT! Or that flawless makeup!!! Yess!!! So, remember… it doesn’t matter the cost of that outfit or what it is, but that CONFIDENCE is what make the outfit a BAD one.

Whatever you wear, ROCK IT!!!
Whatever you wear, #ROCKIT!!! Photo Cred.: google search

AND, REMEMBER YOU WEAR THE OUTFIT… DON’T LET IT WEAR YOU!

And, if that simple little dress or cute outfit just isn’t poppin’… well, there’s ALWAYS makeup for a little enhancement. And, I LOVE putting on makeup. People sometimes think when you wear makeup, that you have to wear it… but, I beg to differ. Your face is an ART CANVASS and, you are simply creating a better picture with a little color, blush, highlight, or sparkle. IT’S FUN!

Now, that you are dressed and you need something else to make it all come together and POP! Put on a little makeup and your brows are acting right that night… you definitely have to get out for a night out on the town.

Showing PURE Confidence!
Showing PURE Confidence!

So, I say all of that to say… let’s remember and use those SYNONYMS at the beginning of this post and EMBRACE them more. And, for those SILLY ANTONYMS, let’s leave them in the past an behind us.

Because, we are all beautiful and wonderfully made… so, let’s embrace those flaws and highlight our natural beauty. Stop focusing on the negative.

So, REMEMBER…. YOU’RE BEAUTIFUL, SHE’S BEAUTIFUL, I’M BEAUTIFUL… now stop and strike a pose in front of that mirror and take a selfie of our beautiful selves.

I challenge you to tell 3 LADIES or TEEN or LITTLE GIRL that she’s beautiful and look at that smile that will appear.

The ladies let their CONFIDENCE shine BRIGHT...

Until next time readers, Be BeYOUtiful,

Be Amazing, Be Great!

The Journey of a Foodie

I love food and since I have started on my #GetFit journey, I wanted to try new things and try to incorporate them in my day to day eating habits.

About 2 months ago, I tried chik patties and it was actually good. I prefer them in the oven, although if you don’t have much time you can put them in the microwave (I personally don’t care to do it that way).

Morning Star Chik Patties Original

So, this is what I had for lunch today and I paired it with avocado and drizzled a little of my avocado cilantro dressing on it and it was YUMMY! 🙂

It’s important to eat for a BETTER YOU and it’s very exciting to try new things! And, it doesn’t hurt to try something once and if you don’t like it– you don’t have to get it again…just to try it out and if you like it.

So, during your weekly shopping… pickup something NEW and give it a try! You might be surprised and actually like it!!! I’m still on my journey and I am going to make this fun and exciting. Two years ago, I would have never picked up anything that veggie based or even give up pork, but I did.

Happy Eating and thank you for reading!

Pretty Hat Tea – August 22nd

This is going to be quick….

I had an event to attend on Saturday at my church, Greater New Bethel of Liberty City in Miami, FL.

Well, I thought it was going to be quick and easy for me today. Makeup and dress, that’s all I had to do. I begin to apply my makeup and I did it in record timing (30 minutes).

Once I was done with makeup, I took my dress off the hanger that I was prepared to wear… and it was so cute. I put it on and all of my UNDERGARMENT STRAPS are exposed and there’s no way to fix this situation at this point.

Remember, I had this planned out in advance because it was for the Pretty Hat Tea event at my church. And, with a tea party… you need hats! Well, my hat went with original dress.

Final pick for the Pretty Hat Tea event
Final pick for the Pretty Hat Tea event

Fast forward to me having to make a quick decision! Being plus size, it’s NOT always easy to make last minute wardrobe changes– especially if you purchase something specific for the event. Although, you may have a closet full of clothes – it doesn’t mean it will be an easy fix. And, after THREE CHANGES… this had to be my FINAL SELECTION. Still cute and that’s all that mattered.
